All across the world, we’ve watched the events unfolding in Ukraine.

I’m not a foreign policy expert or an expert on military conflicts, so I’ll spare you all the armchair commentary. But I do know a thing or two about the power of the crowd. You see, when terrible things happen, whether war or famine or natural disaster everyone can make a difference. Everyone can act.

It’s natural to turn on the news, or scroll through social media and want to help.

Crowdfunding isn’t just about launching businesses and dreams. It isn’t just about venture capital. At its core, crowdfunding is about a diverse group of people coming together in support of a common cause. And putting their money behind it.

Ordinary people from across the globe can have extraordinary power when they combine their efforts and contribute small amounts to causes that matter to them. Whether it’s supporting the military efforts themselves, or the Ukrainian citizens affected by the violence.

NGOs, Non-Profits, and the Ukrainian government are all crowdfunding support right now. The National Bank of Ukraine set up a special account on Thursday to allow people from all over the world to send money to support Ukrainian Soldiers. The Return Alive Foundation, which supports the Ukrainian military in a number of ways said in a Facebook post that it raised more than $683K in 24 hours.

There are other ways to donate and support the people of Ukraine, too.

United Help Ukraine is receiving funds and distributing donations, food, and medical supplies to those displaced and affected by the invasion. Their Facebook fundraiser has raised more than $560K so far. bit.ly/UHUkraine.

Vostok-SOS works to help the victims of military aggression and internally displaced people in Ukraine. This NGO started as a volunteer civil initiative and has since worked to find shelter for displaced people, evacuate people from conflict zones, distribute humanitarian aid, and more.

I hope you’ll consider joining the crowd to support people in crisis all over the world. Today it’s Ukraine. Tomorrow it could be here.
